Privacy Notice

This notice covers what Neighbor Powered collects when you use NeighborPowered.com — whether you're signing up for a project, applying to connect your organization, posting to the community board, or messaging another member.

What we collect

• Volunteer signup: your name, email, and (for most in-person or safety-sensitive projects) your phone number.
• Organization application: your organization's name, type, legal name, an authorized contact's name/email/phone, city/ZIP, website, and — for verification — either your EIN or a supporting document.
• Community board and profiles: whatever you choose to post, plus an optional photo and bio if you create a member profile.
• Project data: anything you or an organization enters while planning, running, or closing out a project (scope, tasks, updates, meeting notes).
• Standard technical data: basic request logs (IP address, browser) collected automatically by our hosting provider for security and abuse prevention.

We do not process payments or donations anywhere on this platform, so we never collect payment card or bank information.

How we use it

To operate the service you asked for: connecting you to a shift you signed up for, sending the hosting organization your signup so they can plan and supervise the work, verifying an organization before its projects go public, and sending you the emails a normal signup or application generates (confirmations, reminders, status updates).

Automated review

To keep the community safe, community posts, comments, direct messages, events, profile pictures and shared photos are screened automatically before anyone else sees them. Items that are held, and reports that aren't about safety, may also be reviewed by automated tools working under our team's oversight, and those decisions can be reversed. Reports about safety — threats, harassment, sexual content, or anyone who may be under 18 — always go to a person on our team. You can ask for a second look at any decision about your own content or account, and you can ask for a person to decide.

For this review we send only the item itself and the little context needed to understand it (for example, the earlier lines of the same conversation) — not your name, email, phone number, address or other profile details. It is processed by our AI model provider, Anthropic, only to return a review result.

J. Robert, follow-up emails, and keeping out bots

When you chat with J. Robert, your messages are sent to Anthropic to write his replies. So we can check that his answers are accurate and helpful and improve them, we keep the conversation — what you wrote and what he answered — for 90 days, with any email address or phone number in it masked, together with a label and a short automated review of the conversation and its cost; after 90 days the text is cleared and only the label and review remain. Only Neighbor Powered's owner can read them. If you give J. Robert your email and ask for a recap — or you apply to connect an organization or send an inquiry — we keep what you said or submitted so he can write you a few short follow-up emails, and we stop when you reply, finish what you started, or click the one-click unsubscribe in any of them. That text is deleted when the follow-ups end.

Our public forms, sign-in pages and J. Robert use Cloudflare Turnstile, an invisible check that a real person is there, and count recent attempts to stop floods. Those counts use a one-way scrambled form of your IP address or email, never the address itself, and are deleted after a day.

Visit counts, page tests and the organizing toolkit

We count visits to learn which pages help people, without identifying anyone: one count per visit, by day, page and the campaign tag on the link that brought you (for example a shared guide), with no IP address and no visitor ID. Visits by people who are signed in are not counted. We don't use third-party analytics or advertising cookies.

A few small cookies support this, all first-party and kept in your own browser: one remembers which version of a page you were shown when we compare two wordings (it holds only “a” or “b”), one ends when you close the browser so a visit is counted once, and two remember the campaign tag that first and most recently brought you here, for 90 days. Those tags are recorded only if you go on to join, apply or ask for the toolkit. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the campaign cookies aren't set.

If you ask us to email you the free organizing toolkit, we keep your email address and send one link to confirm it. Nothing else is sent unless you click it, and every later email has a one-click unsubscribe.

Who it's shared with

Your volunteer signup information is shared with the organization hosting that specific project — they need it to plan, supervise, and account for who's participating. It is not shared with any other organization on the platform. We use Resend to deliver email, 8x8 JaaS for video meetings, Anthropic for the automated review and J. Robert described above, and Cloudflare Turnstile for the bot check; each processes data only as needed to deliver that service. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Retention

We keep signup, application, and project records for as long as the related project or organization account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for recordkeeping and dispute resolution. You can ask us to delete your information at any time — see Contact below.
